K. H. Hödicke's genre-spanning oeuvre with a wry wit, ranging from painting and sculpture to object art and film, has left its mark on the Berlin art scene of recent decades. His multifaceted oeuvre is now being presented in a comprehensive and up-to-date manner. The artist Karl Horst Hödicke (*1938) came to Berlin in 1957, where he found a new home. He studied at the Hochschule der Künste there with Fred Thieler, co-founded the "Artists' Self-Help Gallery" Großgörschen 35 in 1964, and after stays abroad taught at the HdK himself from the mid-1970s until 2006. His multifaceted oeuvre, which is classified as New Figuration, encompasses new forms of painting and sculpture as well as objects and experimental film. Hödicke influenced numerous younger artists and is considered one of the most important instigators of Heftige Malerei in the 1980s.
